The Craft of the Traditional Vest

Created in collaboration with the Cultural Center of Brașov, Taina Pieptarului explores the Romanian traditional vest through the relationship between heritage, craftsmanship, and contemporary digital expression.

The film begins with the act of making — thread, stitching, material, and construction — referencing the physical process and care embedded in the original garment. From there, the vest moves beyond its traditional form, transforming into a series of sculptural 3D interpretations that explore its shapes, patterns, materials, and visual identity through a contemporary lens.

Rather than reinventing the object completely, the intention was to preserve its cultural character while allowing it to evolve through motion, simulation, and digital form. The sequence eventually returns to the traditional vest, connecting the experimental interpretation back to its origin.

The project explores how contemporary technology can engage with traditional craft — not by replacing it, but by creating new ways of experiencing and interpreting it.
